Steward handles your pay and benefit records. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your name and email address when you create an account.
- Your union local, trade, and classification, so we can apply the right agreement and rates.
- Documents you choose to upload — paystubs, pension and annuity statements, health and welfare reports, vacation fund statements, training and on-the-job-hour records, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Anything you write to us for support.
Information we generate
- The figures we read out of your documents, and the comparisons and flags we produce from them.
Information collected automatically
- Basic usage and device information — which screens are opened, app version, device type, and error reports — used to find bugs and see which features are used.
We do not collect your Social Security number, your bank account numbers, or your location.
What we do with it
We use your information to run the product you signed up for: to read your documents, compare them against your agreement and against each other, show you the result, alert you to a problem, and answer you when you contact support. We also use it, in aggregate and stripped of anything that identifies you, to improve how accurately Steward reads documents.
We do not sell your information. We do not rent it, trade it, or share it with advertisers.
Who can see it
Your records are yours. We do not send your documents or your discrepancy findings to your employer, your local, your trust fund, or your training program. If you want to raise an issue with any of them, Steward can help you prepare a letter — but you send it.
Your information is visible to:
- You.
- Our staff, only where necessary to operate the service, investigate a problem, or respond to your support request.
- Service providers that host and run the product under contract with us, including our cloud hosting and database providers and our error and analytics tooling. They may process your information only to provide services to us.
- Law enforcement or a court, if we are legally required to produce it.
If Union Steward Works Inc. is ever acquired or merged, your information may transfer with the business. We will tell you before that happens.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Your information is stored on servers in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest. We keep your account information and documents for as long as your account is open, because the point of the product is a record that goes back years. When you delete your account, we delete your documents and the data we derived from them within 30 days, except where we are required to keep something by law. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis and are fully cycled out within 90 days.
Your choices
- See your information. Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correct it. Tell us if something is wrong and we will fix it.
- Delete a document. Remove any individual document from within the app at any time.
- Delete your account. Email support@steward.trade and we will close it and delete your data. We do not make you jump through hoops for this.
If you live in California, the CCPA gives you the rights listed above, plus the right not to be treated differently for using them. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under that law. Residents of other states with similar laws have comparable rights, and we honor them the same way. Children
Steward is built for working adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has created an account, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
